PTT Space opened its doors in 2020 against the challenging current amidst the peak of a global pandemic.Branching as the 4th project space of Pata Gallery, PTT Space brings a breath of fresh air to one of the most robust art capitals in East Asia. Managing Director , Robert Po-Chung Hsu, envisions the gallery as an open platform to initiate and foster artistic exchange and dialogue between the audience and emerging artistsin Asia and from around the world.
Committed to presenting artwork across all media including painting, photography, time-based media and installations, PTT Space works in tandem with a diversity of artists and curators from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Denmark among other countries to develop thought-provoking exhibitions years round. The gallery’s dynamic programming has focused on pressenting an array of contemporary discourses on human condition, politics, identity, social justice and alike.
Since its founding in 1987 by Tung-Lung Hsu in Taipei, Pata Gallery has developed a unique legacy through its long-standing advocacy for originality and the endeavor to introduce unfamiliar talents to its audience. In the 90s, Pata pioneered its peer through showcasing Chinese diaspora artists, such as Chu Teh-Chun, Yun Gee and Zao Wou-Ki, who are nowadays known as quintessential masters in the modern Chinese art historical canon. In 2005 and 2016, the gallery expanded respectively in Beijing and Shanghai, and fostered a roster of Chinese contemporary artists, including Zeng Fanzi, Yue Minjun, Wang Guanyi, as well as a younger generation of critically acclaimed artists. Pata has also been active in the secondary market and offers outstanding art advisory services to private collectors and institutions.
