LIU YU

Born in Taiwan in 1985, Liu Yu currently works and resides in Taipei, Taiwan.

Liu Yu's (b. 1985) artistic career has gradually developed into a documentary-based fieldwork practice since 2014. Her work explores human evolution through the lens of human perspectives, spatial attributes, and the identity of objects within systems. She has developed a series of works focusing on ethnic groups hidden within social structures as a research subject. These groups' existence often mirrors the temporal aspects of current societal or historical structures, creating a blurred reconfiguration of familiar systems and scientific methods. Her works reference various visual languages and forms, including textual publications, documentary-style imagery, and quasi-documentary formats. Extensive field research and archival work have also led her to reconfigure these languages, integrating fragmented elements of space, history, imagery, and narrative into a cohesive and interrelated whole.
