LAO LAI-LAI
Lo Lai Lai was born in Hong Kong and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
A former travel journalist, Lo Lai Lai now focuses on art creation related to natural ecology. Currently based at the "Living Lab" in Hong Kong, she is exploring a "half-farming, half-X" lifestyle, which prompts her to question alternative ways of living and the autonomy of being a Hong Konger and an artist. Her main research topics include food, farming, fermentation, slow living, surveillance, and meditation.
Her work primarily involves moving images, photography, installation, and mixed media. Her works are part of the collection at the Shick Collection and the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, USA. Solo exhibitions include "WMA Commission Project - Opportunities: The Silence Before Spring Comes" (2020, WMA Space, Hong Kong), "Keeping Silent" (2020, Tommorrow Maybe, Hong Kong), "The Abyss" (2018, Běnlái Gallery, Guangzhou), "Slow TV - The Gaze of Anri Sala" (2016, Jiu Dian. Ju Dian, Hong Kong), and "Souvenirs and Gifts" (2014, Observation Society, Guangzhou). Her works have been exhibited in San Francisco, USA; Paris, France; Basel, Switzerland; Dresden, Germany; Johannesburg, South Africa; Yogyakarta, Indonesia; and Beijing and Shanghai, China.
