HAFSA NOUMAN

Born in 1998, Lahore, Pakistan.
Lives and works in New Haven, CT.
Hafsa Nouman (b. 1998, Lahore) is a Pakistani visual artist based in New Haven, Connecticut. Working across painting, printmaking, and architectural interventions, she explores sheen, tactility, and scale to complicate flatness and challenges the fixity imposed on the figure and architectural form within postcolonial critique. Her practice defies reductive historicization through contemplative surfaces and spatial forms that shift perception, transforming institutional and domestic architectures into sites of accountability, where the viewer becomes an active witness. She was the recipient of the Vasl Museum of Repair Grant (2023) and the Robert Schoelkopf Memorial Traveling Grant (2024). Nouman’s work has been presented at Perrotin (New York, NY), Dastaangoi (Islamabad), O Art Space (Lahore), among many others. Nouman holds a BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore and a MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art.
