CLAIRE CHEY
Born in 1997, South Korea.
Claire Chey (b. 1997, Seoul) is a Korean artist based in New York City. Chey primarily uses oil paint to depict human flesh and bodies in different contexts. Through nuanced gestures and application of paint, she renders and abstracts bodies between seemingly conflicting states, such as in pleasure and pain, retaining agency and becoming a mere receptacle, fluidity and boundedness, and reality and fantasy. Chey's works has been included in group exhibitions across East Asia and North America, including Perrotin (New York, NY), Eli Klein Gallery (New York, NY), Wooson Gallery (Daegu), Humor Garmgot (Seoul), and Shophouse (Hong Kong).
