WANG YI
Born in 1990 in Shanghai, WANG YI's works feature vivid and diverse colors derived from the artist's skillful use of primary colors to create multiple contrasts and complementary relationships. The meticulousness, rigor, and precision in his works originate from a mathematical and logical approach to cutting and composition. The rhythmic overlapping of geometric shapes, along with the spontaneity and uncontrollability of the materials, imbue the works with ambiguous blurred areas, creating rich variations within perfect order.
Wang Yi meticulously mixes near-transparent acrylic paint, applying it hundreds of times to form the final image. His minimalist artistic expression lies not only on the surface but also in the artist's daily repetitive labor. He aims to dissolve the painting elements in his works as much as possible. Even though viewers may still perceive the flaws and imperfections brought about by manual labor, Wang Yi's works reflect humanity's inherent pursuit and desire for ultimate perfection. Through the pure surfaces of his works, viewers can interpret the cultural background they embody.
