HSIEH MU-CHI

Born in 1981 in Taipei, Taiwan, Hsieh Mu-Chi's recent work returns to the essence of painting, with a focus on the theme of sketching. He aims to engage with his art in a more relaxed manner while achieving a deeper connection with the local environment and cultural context. By confronting the historical context of traditional Taiwanese landscape painting, Hsieh views painting as a profound question, continuously exploring what painting means to him and how it can represent Taiwan. This ongoing quest allows him to maintain a sense of creative uncertainty, constantly deconstructing and reconstructing his artistic vision.

Hsieh Mu-Chi has received several accolades, including the first prize at the "Taipei Arts Award" in 2006, the "Taoyuan Fine Arts Award" from the Taoyuan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau, the "S-An Aesthetics Award in Form Art" from the S-An Cultural and Educational Foundation, the China Trust Contemporary Painting Award (2022), and was a finalist for the 18th Taishin Arts Award (2020).
