Born in 1981, Seoul, Korea
Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA, USA
Taylor Lee is a Korean American ceramic artist working and living in Los Angeles. Lee's work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Miami and London. Lee likes to create forms that juxtapose old with new. Inspired by historical figures as well as nostalgia from childhood, she combines elements of folk art with pop culture. Lee uses different firing and glaze techniques, which accent the weathered aesthetic that represent imperfect memories of past experiences combined with playful subjects that bring joy. Each piece is sculpted and glazed by hand, introducing a rich variety of colour, tone and texture. The Raku technique is rooted in Japanese tradition, involving a firing process then immersing the work in combustible material with unexpected results.
