HSIEH YU-CHENG
b. 1992, is a graduate of the MFA program in New Media Art at National Taipei University of the Arts and currently lives and works in Taipei. His artistic practice focuses on the visual aspects of materiality and technological media, exploring interface phenomena through light and imagery. He examines the established relationships between humans and technological objects, such as digital vs. analog, physical vs. virtual, displacement vs. alignment, and presence vs. absence, and investigates perceptual experiences and real spaces interrelated through these concepts.
His past works have been exhibited at institutions such as the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Tainan Art Museum, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, and Feng Chia Museum of Art. He has been recognized with awards including the Taipei Art Award, First Prize at the Contemporary Art Award, Silver Medal at the National Fine Arts Exhibition, Tainan New Art Award, Si’an Aesthetics Award, NEU NOW Art Festival in Europe, and was a Quarterly Nominee for the Taishin Arts Award. His work has been supported by the Tianmei Art Foundation and the Ministry of Culture’s AND Project. Recent commissioned works and outdoor light installations can be seen at the Taiwan Lantern Festival (2022), Taiwan International Light Festival (2021), Hualien City Space Art Festival (2021), Original Base Festival (2021), Treasure Hill Light Festival (2020), Yuejin Port Lantern Festival (2019-2020), Kuandu Light Art Festival (2018), and White Night (2017).
